CELEBRATING THE GOODNESS OF GOD
Advent Midweek Two - Who is Jesus?
GLORIFY HIM ...GROW IN HIM ...GO WITH HIS GOSPEL
---Focus for our Midweek December 9, 2020
A place to call home: St. Mark’s Lutheran Church & School
In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, welcome home. We especially welcome to our house of
worship our guests who have joined us today. We pray you will be strengthened by the good news
about God’s grace, love, and forgiveness to us through Jesus.
We say with the Psalmist, whether here on campus or viewing online, “I rejoiced with those who said to me,
‘Let us go to the house of the LORD’” (Psalm 122:1).
May the Lord continue to help us grow in His grace and knowledge as we hear, speak, and sing His
holy Word.
Worship Focus: It is not an accurate assumption to think everyone knows who Jesus is. Some claim
not to have heard of Him. Others may know about Him but do not believe in Him as the Savior of all
people. Thankfully Jesus has revealed who He is and why this knowledge is important. He has
revealed such for people of all ages. He has revealed this knowledge on the pages of Holy Scripture.
God help us grow in our knowledge of who Jesus is, and celebrate the truth; along with helping us
share who He is with others. This is our focus during another Advent Season of the Church Year.

Worship Focus:
Jesus arrived on the scene at Christmas and later again as he was about to begin his ministry. Both times there
were people eagerly awaiting his advent. Why? Because God graciously provided forerunners to prepare the way.
God todayprovides forerunners for Christ’s advent on the Last Day: his Scriptures, pastors, teachers, elders,
and allof us. We proclaim the same message as previous forerunners: “Here he comes! Get ready! Prepare the way!”

Focus of Today’s Service: Do you look forward to bedtime, and getting a good night’s sleep? Life
can be exhausting, sleep can help recharge us. But there is an area of life we cannot afford to fall
asleep; it has to do with our spiritual life. We cannot take time off from our relationship with Jesus as
that will not end well for us. By staying connected to the Word of God we are able to remain awake
and alert; and so we look forward to our worship once again.

before you would say those words to someone? How often do you direct them God’s way? What has
God done to earn our ‘thank you’? Through our look at the Psalms today we are reminded of the
why behind our saying ‘thank you’ to God and how often we are encouraged to say this to Him.

Worship Focus:
We have great reason to rejoice in our King! There may be many enemies that rage against us—within and
without—but he will conquer every last one. There may be threats and dangers along our path in life, but he
lovingly shepherds us through it all day-by-day. There many be guilt that tries to drive us away from God,
but our Savior King suffered for that guilt himself and declares us forgiven in the blood he humbly shed.
We can rejoice in the reign of our King because we know that he reigns over everything for us both now and
forevermore!

Worship Focus:
If you are going to a special event (wedding, award ceremony, etc), would you clean up and dress up?
Going to heaven calls for a clean up and dress up situation; but we on our own do not have what is needed to
get cleanand to be acceptably dressed. No worries, God has taken care of such for us through the gift of Jesus.
Because we are ‘wearing’ Jesus by grace through faith we can look forward to heaven knowing we have what is
needed to enter; and note today what will be taking place in heaven. Amen and Hallelujah!

Worship Focus: Are you scared of or by anything? Some people do not like to admit what their
fears are and in that way they hope not to have to face them. Will standing before God with your
entire life open to all, does that scare you? As one of God’s own, you do not need to be scared of
that to come situation. God already has given to us what we need to calm our fears; we hear of it
again in the Scripture Readings for today. Continue to take all your fears to Him; and be ready to

Focus of Today’s Service:
“I am sending you out like sheep among wolves,” Jesus says in the Gospel for today.
History has proven that to be very true: lions’ dens, the wrath of emperors, hatred from our fellow man,
persecution from even those who call themselves Christians, and so much more has accompanied faith in
Christ’s Wordthroughout the millennia. But we fear not! Why? Because our God protects us through his
Word and by his mighty power. The truth God gives us helps us endure, so through his grace Jesus is
also able to say: “But the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.”

GLORIFY HIM ... GROW IN HIM ... GO WITH HIS GOSPEL
21th Sunday after Pentecost October 25, 2020
Welcome to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church & School!
In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, we welcome you to St. Mark’s.

Worship Focus: What is the big deal … life goes on, people die, and then nothing … or is there
something more to it? There is more to it while living in the flesh on earth and upon our death; there
is eternal pain or pleasure. The time to secure eternal pleasure is now while in the flesh. God’s grace
makes this possible. At the heart of such grace is the Gospel, the message of what Jesus has done for
people because of grace. Celebrate once again God’s grace in Jesus in your life today and beyond.
