GLORIFY HIM ...GROW IN HIM ...GO WITH HIS GOSPEL
Lent Midweek
March 16, 2022
A place to call home: St. Mark’s Lutheran Church & School
In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, welcome home. We especially welcome to our house of
worship our guests who have joined us today. We pray you will be strengthened by the good news
about God’s grace, love, and forgiveness to us through Jesus.
We say with the Psalmist, whether here on campus or viewing online, “I rejoiced with those who said to me,
‘Let us go to the house of the LORD’” (Psalm 122:1).
May the Lord continue to help us grow in His grace and knowledge as we hear, speak, and sing His
holy Word.
Worship Focus: Was the Gospel just for ‘New Testament Believers’? Not at all. The Gospel has
not changed from day one God announced His saving plan to the world – Genesis 3:15. And so we
have throughout the Old Testament references to the coming Savior, references the believers in the
OT would hold on to as they believed God would keep His promise. Some of these references we
refer to as ‘shadows or pictures of the Savior.’ During this Lenten Journey we will review some of
these ‘shadows’ and see their fulfillment in the Christ who came in flesh at the appointed time to
carry out the plan of our salvation. God be praised for keeping His promise.

Worship Focus: How did you become a citizen of this country we live in? What comes with this
citizenship? How do you show you appreciate the citizenship you have? By grace we have been given
another citizenship. This one too comes with benefits, benefits worth holding on to but it is not easy.
How can we show we value this citizenship which has not been earned by us? The what and the why
and the how of this particular citizenship is our main focus today.

Worship Focus: What is a temptation that continues to come before you? Have you grown
indifferent to a temptation? Temptations are all around us, though not impacting people in the same
way. What steps are you taking to deal with temptations? One important step, and to be the priority,
is connecting with Jesus by way of the Bible and through prayer. He knows temptation, He knows
what is tempting you; He has the means to help. Hold on to Jesus, dear friend.

Worship Focus: Where do you get your encouragement from? We all need encouragement at some
point in our life; for many of us we need such daily. The best source of encouragement comes from
Jesus. He is the encouragement we need, and He provides it for us in the Bible. The Bible is full of
Jesus focused encouragement. Let us be like the Psalmist who said “I was glad when they said to me,
‘Let us go to the house of the LORD’” to be enriched and encouraged. We are reminded today of
what is at the heart of the encouragement we have through Jesus.

Worship Focus: Who do you want to see rot in hell? If you say ‘no one,’ what are you doing about it
(as much as it depends on you to do something)? Are you holding a grudge, even a little bit? Have
you forgiven in words but your actions don’t line up with the words? The ability to forgive comes
from within, but it does not originate with us. Today we are reminded of where forgiveness starts,
and why this matters for self and for world healing.

life, we can also add hardships to the list. These hardships can look differently for each one of us, yet
we all go through them. What we do to get through them is key. God has an answer for us: why
hardships and how to get through them. God keep us focused on His answer, and so, let us worship

Gospel has nothing to do with our looks (hygiene is a different discussion), but it does have
something to do with our body. With our hands folded, with our mouth open, with our feet on the
move, and so on we have opportunity to share the Gospel with the goal of people calling on the
name of the Lord for their salvation. How beautiful is that?

Worship Focus: Do you know what it is like to be used, that is, people want something from you
not because they like you but because they need your skill in a particular area and so ‘butter you up’
to get what they want? Jesus had people like Him as long as He was filling their stomachs and healing
their illnesses; but when it came to salvation talk, they had no time for Him. That has not changed in
our day; as long as God can be a good luck charm, He is accepted, beyond that, well … Give thanks
to God for what He has done and keeps on doing for you, give thanks from your heart

has invested in us, and He expects a positive result. To help with His investment and realize the
expectation, He has given to us the Bible. As we spend time reading and listening and studying the
Bible it pays dividends leading to positives. This is our focus as worship today. God be praised for
