GLORIFY HIM ... GROW IN HIM ... GO WITH HIS GOSPEL
CELEBRATING THE GOODNESS OF GOD
2nd Sunday after the Epiphany
January 16, 2022
A place to call home: St. Mark’s Lutheran Church & School
In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, we welcome you to St. Mark’s. We especially welcome our guests who have joined us today.
We pray you will be strengthened by the good news about God’s grace, love, and forgiveness through Jesus.
Worship Focus: How often do you give thought to what God has done, and keeps on doing, for
you? How often do you rely on your own strength before turning to the Lord for His strength to
bolster you? What keeps you from grasping the love God has for you? Today the Lord reminds us of
why our confidence in Him is not misplaced. Praise Him!

Worship Focus: Do you know what love is, unconditional love? We might say the word ‘love’ in a
variety of situations and to various people, but how do we mean it? When God says He ‘loves’ us, He
means it without conditions. The proof? Christmas, Good Friday, Easter, your Baptism, etc. Through
the Gospel (good news) and Sacraments (Baptism, Lord’s Supper), God speaks of and shows love.
Thank God for His love for you.

In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, we welcome you to St. Mark’s. We especially welcome our guests who have joined us today.
We pray you will be strengthened by the good news about God’s grace, love, and forgiveness through Jesus.
Worship Focus: How far would you travel to worship Jesus? For some, if the church is not within
walking distance, it is too far. Others are willing to be on the road for as long as it takes. Some don’t
have to leave their home to worship; but how many do not use their tech device for this purpose?
Can you come up with a viable excuse for not worshiping? The Gospel is good news; but too often,
and by too many, it is ignored or rejected and so remains a mystery to them. Thankfully the Gospel is
not a mystery to us. Enjoy your worship!

THE ORDER OF WORSHIP
Worship Focus: How is your memory? Do you remember things you wish you could forget, and
forget what you wish you would like to remember (if you can recall what those moments are)? God
has a short and long memory. Thankfully He practices a short memory when it comes to our sins,
this for Jesus’ sake. Thankfully He practices a long memory when it comes to keeping His promises.
As we reflect on 2021, and ponder what might lie ahead in 2022, let us not forget to praise God for
His short and long memory. A blessed New Year to you!

Worship Focus: Who is your family? There are many ways a person could answer that question. For
some it might include parents, siblings, cousins, etc. For others, it might be their fellow believers as
for various reasons their ‘blood’ family has disowned them. Family is important, especially our family
of faith. And who is at the center of that faith and our family by faith? Jesus! Jesus is God … He is
Savior … He is Brother, our Brother. Today we review the how and the what this means for us. As
family, we worship this today in the name of Jesus.

Christmas Day --- Peace on Earth
December 25, 2021
A place to call home: St. Mark’s Lutheran Church & School
In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, welcome home. We especially welcome to our house of
worship our guests who have joined us today. We pray you will be strengthened by the good news
about God’s grace, love, and forgiveness to us through Jesus.
Worship Focus: The world keeps searching for it and it will not find it where it looks because it is
looking in the wrong spot for it. The ‘it’ is peace in the heart which is a peace that can drive the peace
the world says it seeks. The correct place to find such peace is in Jesus. He came to earth to win our
peace with God the Father, and with that accomplished we can have peace with one another as well.
Yet, apart from Jesus, such peace will not be found. How many people miss the reason for Christmas
and so miss the peace which can fill the void and provide purpose to life and promote goodwill
among all? Thankfully we know peace, as we know Jesus. Merry Christmas!

Worship Focus: Have you ever had that defeated feeling, life seems to keep delivering one knock
down punch after another? Such is real, however, the way to get back up again and keep moving
forward through this life is also real. Our Advent Moment for today reminds of the Source of our
ability to keep getting back up. This is also true when it comes to the Church. Defeat does not get
the last word; God does! God be praised for giving us this Advent moment.

Worship Focus: Jesus fills the potholes? Say what? Life is full of potholes, just like our roads. Jesus
has an eternal remedy for the potholes of life. The remedy has roots in Christmas, and the full
benefits of this remedy will be known when Jesus comes again at the end of the ages. We cannot
have heaven without the 'reason' for Christmas. Due to a variety of reasons, Christmas can be a
depressing time for people while for others it is a time of happiness and celebration; Jesus gets that.
This is why the Season of Advent is an important time of the year in our church. The Advent Season
connects Christmas and the End of the Ages as we hear again what Jesus has accomplished for us
and has waiting for us.
