GLORIFY HIM ... GROW IN HIM ... GO WITH HIS GOSPEL
CELEBRATING THE GOODNESS OF GOD
8th Sunday after Pentecost
July 31, 2022
A place to call home: St. Mark’s Lutheran Church & School
In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, we welcome you to St.Mark’s.We especially welcome our guests who have joined us today.
We pray you will be strengthened by the good news about God’s grace, love, and forgiveness through Jesus.
Worship Focus: Do you like to give yourself pats on the back, acknowledging the good things you
do at the moment or throughout the week? An athlete can get all full of self after a homerun or a
touchdown, only to strike out next time at bat or drop an easy pass later on in the game. There is a
line when it comes to acknowledging the good we do while not becoming puffed up. Puffed up, we
miss what our life needs: not self-acknowledgement, and not ego, but rather God’s acknowledgement
of us, which we have through Jesus, and what He has done. In this way it is not the love of self or a
“have to” motivation that prompts us to act, but it is the love of God for us and in us that moves us
to do good. God be praised for His goodness to us and the good He prompts us to do.

there are no skeletons in the closet; rejoice in that. Our name and our reputation are important, to

you, a child of God, have your name written in heaven. What does this mean for us while still on
earth? This is part of our focus today.

Worship Focus: It can be like wearing a huge and heavy weight around your neck (but this one is
pressing on your mind), that is, when people think less of you because of something they do not like
about you. Some people will not hide the fact they do not like you because you are a Christian. Do
you stop being a Christian? We hear an answer to that question, along with encouragement needed
for living while on this side of heaven. God be praised.

In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, we welcome you to St. Mark’s. We especially welcome our guests who have joined us today.
We pray you will be strengthened by the good news about God’s grace, love, and forgiveness through Jesus.
Worship Focus: How do you define freedom? Independence? Gratefulness? With freedom comes
responsibility. With independence comes responsibility. With gratefulness comes responsibility. As
Christians we have all three, and with such comes responsibility to not misuse our freedom or take
our independence for granted or to forget to show our appreciation. How can we sharpen all three
areas as such are under attack? We turn to the Lord for His answers. In him we have true and lasting
freedom and independence which we are to be grateful for at all times.

We pray you will be strengthened by the good news about God’s grace, love, and forgiveness through Jesus.
Worship Focus: There is for sure one topic the majority of people do not like to talk about, but it
does not have to be a sad or hopeless conversation. We will all have to go through this, unless Jesus
comes first. When it happens, it is a powerful reminder that we are not in control or invincible, we are
accountable and temporary; however, that does not mean our life is without meaning and purpose.
The Lord reminds us of this truth. Let us listen to Him, and with our fellow believers – rejoice in what
we have in and through Him.

Worship Focus: Would you consider yourself to be a happy person? Would others agree? We realize
there is a difference between happiness and joy; not everything in this life makes us happy, but such
does not have to steal our joy throughout this life. Our joy is rooted in a sure hope, a hope which is
rooted in a peace that surpasses all understanding …it is rooted in Jesus. And you, plugged into
Jesus, have reason to remain filled with joy … even when not happy.

Worship Focus: What is the point … Have you said those words regarding a project or dealing
with another human being? We can become frustrated, and that can turn to despair and a defeatist
attitude. How can we avoid such, or get out of such? Jesus answers that for us. We have a God who
instead of being frustrated and giving up on us, has given to us what we need to overcome. To our
God, Father – Son – Holy Spirit, be the praise today and every day.

In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, we welcome you to St. Mark’s. We especially welcome our guests who have joined us today.
We pray you will be strengthened by the good news about God’s grace, love, and forgiveness through Jesus.
Worship Focus: 50 days, that is how many days following the Resurrection of Jesus that the event
of Pentecost took place … as promised. The disciples did not need an energy drink to get them
fueled up for what was ahead, they were filled with the Holy Spirit … as promised. Are you filled
with the Spirit? If you call Jesus your Savior, you have the Spirit in you as He is the One who enables
us to call on the name of Jesus. The Holy Spirit reminds us of God’s promises and so much more as
we hear once again today.
Presiding Minister: Pastor Jonathan Kolander
Accompanist: Rosemarie Boushek
Flowers: The flowers are placed at the altar by the Worship Arts Committee in celebration of the
Holy Spirit coming upon the first followers of Jesus Christ, and the beginning of the Christian
church and its mission to spread the Gospel.
