Welcome to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church & School
In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, we welcome you to St. Mark’s. We especially welcome our guests who have joined us today. We pray you will be strengthened by the good news about God’s grace, love, and forgiveness to us through Jesus.
Worship Focus: Because of sin, guilt, and death, everything seemed eternally hopeless. Then God sent Jesus. As promised and prophesied, God sent our only hope of eternal life with him. This child born for us would win the forgiveness we all need. Let us celebrate the birth of God made flesh, Immanuel, the Prince of Peace—the world’s Savior. Hope is born!

Welcome to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church & School In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, we welcome you to St. Mark’s. We especially welcome our guests who have joined us today. We pray you will be strengthened by the good news about God’s grace, love, and forgiveness to us through Jesus.
Worship Focus: Do you consider yourself more ‘sinner’ or ‘saint’? Does it depend on the day? We are both, sinner and saint. By the grace of God we can be called ‘saints’ while living in flesh, this through the cleansing blood of Jesus; this is why Jesus came to earth in the flesh, starting as a baby. And so, Christmas has meaning, Christmas is filled with promise, Christmas is filled with peace. Give thanks today and every day for you can be called a ‘saint.’ Live today in light of this truth and keep sin behind you. Rejoice, God is with you.

Worship Focus: God acts intentionally! For what purpose? Jesus Himself summed it up when He said in Luke 19, “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost.” We come to know from the Word of God, and by looking in the mirror of our lives, that we have messed up before God, before others, and even with ourselves. Yet, we are not left to deal with the messes on our own. As John the Baptist pointed out, we have the Lamb of God (Jesus) who has come to take away the sins of the world (your sins included). Messing up should lead us to repentance, that is a confession of our sins; and along with that comes, by the Holy Spirit, a trust in the news our sins have been forgiven. This then is to be followed by fruits of repentance, that is, a 180 change from the direction we were headed. Think about this change connected to repentance and the Lamb of God as we prepare our hearts and minds for another Christmas, and beyond. This year’s theme is: The Blessed Challenge of Advent – Repentance.
Presiding Minister: Pastor Brock Groth
Accompanist: Marty Puckett
Flute: Maren McPeak

Prayer: Gracious Lord God, as travelers in this sinful world, the search for peace seems like an impossible dream. We see unrest all around, in our country, in our schools and workplaces, and in our homes. Our minds are often filled with restless thoughts that rob our joy and happiness. Today our children present a message filled with your blessing of peace; peace that came to earth long ago in the Bethlehem manger. This was not an earthly peace, which is only fleeting, but heavenly peace that sets our hearts at rest. Send your Holy Spirit into our hearts and show us the true peace between you,our perfect God,and our sin-filled souls. Teach us to treasure the peace that is ours through the sacrifice of Jesus, our Savior, who is the Prince of Peace, and in whose name we pray. Amen.
