CELEBRATING THE GOODNESS OF GOD
5th Sunday in Lent

A place to call home: St. Mark’s Lutheran Church & School
In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, we welcome you to St. Mark’s. We especially welcome our guests who have joined us today.
We pray you will be strengthened by the good news about God’s grace, love, and forgiveness through Jesus.
Worship Focus:
Have you asked this question, or something similar, about this life: Is this all there
is to life? This is not to say this life is horrible, yet there are times when the ugliness of this life stands
out and can get to us. Jesus reminds us to hold on and to not lose heart, nor to get distracted by this
life. Keep looking ahead, He says; a time is coming when the ugliness and distractions of this life will
come to an end. It is for that time we need to remain alert and ready. Are you?

SHADOWS OF THE SAVIOR …
All of these were a ‘shadow’ of the things
that were to come;
the ‘reality,’ however, is found in Christ
(Colossians 2:17)
GLORIFY HIM …
GROW IN HIM …
GO WITH HIS GOSPEL
A place to call home: St. Mark’s Lutheran Church & School
In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, welcome home. We especially welcome to our house of
worship our guests who have joined us today. We pray you will be strengthened by the good news
about God’s grace, love, and forgiveness to us through Jesus.
We say with the Psalmist, whether here on campus or viewing online, “I rejoiced with those who said to me,
‘Let us go to the house of the LORD’” (Psalm 122:1).
May the Lord continue to help us grow in His grace and knowledge as we hear, speak, and sing His
holy Word.
Worship Focus: Was the Gospel just for ‘New Testament Believers’? Not at all. The Gospel has
not changed from day one God announced His saving plan to the world – Genesis 3:15. And so we
have throughout the Old Testament references to the coming Savior, references the believers in the
OT would hold on to as they believed God would keep His promise. Some of these references we
refer to as ‘shadows or pictures of the Savior.’ During this Lenten Journey we will review some of
these ‘shadows’ and see their fulfillment in the Christ who came in flesh at the appointed time to
carry out the plan of our salvation. God be praised for keeping His promise.

Worship Focus: What do you have a difficult time admitting about yourself? Do you have a
problem with authority? Our sinful nature chafes at being told what to do; our new self in Christ
welcomes His direction. Give praise to God today, and daily, for the call to faith and the course He
has for our life as laid out for us in the Bible. He is what we need through the good and the not good.

with giving us a way to endure these harsh realities (some of which we bring upon ourselves).
Because God cares He points out the problem. Because He cares He provides the solution. God help
us take both the problem and the solution seriously. Who will all benefit as we do that?
