Sixth Sunday in Lent

Worship Focus: Hail the King who humbly comes to save us! For 1,700 years, the Church has celebrated, with hosannas and palm branches, this festival day that begins Holy Week. The time for Christ’s glory had come. He would not, however, gain glory in the manner of other kings. Rather, he humbles himself in great acts of love for us, and then the Father will exalt him to the highest place, because he had fulfilled God’s mission to save mankind.

Fifth Sunday after Lent

Worship Focus: What great blessings God gives to his people! What great danger we place ourselves in when we assume that we could never fall from faith and lose the blessings of salvation Christ has given us! The Lenten call to repentance in today's service calls us to repent of false spiritual security that fails to see our need to cling to God's Word and Sacraments and ultimately to the cross of Christ.

Fourth Sunday in Lent

Worship Focus: “I once was lost, but now am found.” Those familiar words from the hymn, “Amazing Grace,” reflect the common theme in today’s Scripture lessons. Our inherited sinful condition causes each one of us to be lost in sin, even at birth, but God calls us to repentance and faith and unconditionally restores us to his family through the message of the gospel.

Worship Focus: We cannot imagine a life without temptation in this sinful world. The struggle against sin is real, and all too often we fail to win in that struggle. On this first Sunday in Lent, we give thanks to God that Jesus also took on the battle against sin on our behalf, defeating it successfully on our behalf, and freeing us from the eternal consequences of our sins by his sacrifice on our behalf.
