In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, we welcome you to St. Mark’s. We especially welcome our guests who have joined us today.
We pray you will be strengthened by the good news about God’s grace, love and forgiveness through Jesus.
Worship Focus: What do you use to get tough stains out of your clothes? Does it work every time?
It happens – we get our clothes dirty and they need to be washed. It happens – people do bad and
hurtful things, such should not come as a surprise to us. We then need to get clean, and we can –
through Jesus. To show our thanks for this, may our ‘cleansed’ heart line up with our words and
actions to God’s glory .

Worship Focus : Commitment – what does this word mean to you? What gets in the way of people
hono ring commitments ? If God did not remain committed to us, what would that look like? Being a
follower of Jesus takes more than blind faith ; why is this the case? Without Jesus, what are we
missing , and why is your answer a big deal? Thankfully , Jesus has called us to have life in and through
Him. Today we recall what this all entails , including our commitment to Him .

Worship Focus : When you go on a diet, what are some good tips to keep in mind ? Similar advice
can apply to an exercise routine. Get in a good habit (routine), beware of excuses , make conscious
decisions about what you are doing (not on the fly) , etc. Much of this advice can be applied to our
walk with Jesus, exercise and proper diet are key factors in maintaining a s well as increasing it. Such a
reminder is before us today.

Worship Focus: What part of your body do you want to break? Hopefully you said ‘not any part. ’
Since that is the case , we take step s in life with the goal of not breaking any part of our body . Do we
take a similar approach when it comes to our soul (having and maintaining a relationship with Jesus)?
Today we are reminded of the steps to take in order to keep our relationship with Jesus from breaking
apart, something that is happening with too many people by their own doing .

Worship Focus: Did or do you go on ‘thrill’ rides with your eyes open or closed? Life in some
respect is like a thrill ride, full of known and unknown twists and turns. Life takes courage to get
through ; but not the courage we on our own could muster up , rather we need courage from the One
who can sustain such , and us , through this life of thrills and no thrills events. And so we ask the Lord
to continually keep our eyes open to what He has provided to have the courage we need . He is with
us!

Worship Focus : Who is the most generous person you know? On w hat evidence do you base your
answer ? The Lord encourages us to be generous people, and He even provides what we need to be
such people . Being generous applies to every aspect of our life , not just the stewardship of money.
With that in mind, let us be gen erous with our thanks and praise to the God who has been and is
generous with us.

Worship Focus : What do some people say we can count on while in this world? Death and Taxes.
While that is true, we can also count on God keeping His Word . Let us not mistake the words we put
into God’s mouth , so to speak ; but count on the words He actually has had recorded down for our
benefit . We can count on both consequences as promised, as well as blessings in various forms as
promised. God be praised for keeping His word --- as promised.

Worship Focus: Jobs come with qualifications and if one does not meet them, what will be the
result? Jobs also come with training, and if one does not take the training seriously, what will be the
result? What is an expectation for the workplace outside the church is also an expectation within the
church: qualifications, willingness to learn and adapt in keeping with the mission, being accountable.
Today we see once again how God provides what is needed so His Message gets out to the world.

Worship Focus: If you are friends with the world, what might this indicate about your relationship
with Jesus? If you are friends with God , what might the world have to say about you? Whose opinion
of you is to matter most, and why is this? The Lord is aware of not friendly environments, and thus
He has equipped us with His Word to be and to remain salt and light . Remain strong in the Lord!

Worship Focus : Finish the thought: Life can be … What word or words did you use to capture
what this life is like from your vantage point? Has that point of view changed over time, if so, for the
better or for the worse? This life is full of ups and downs , but there is at least one constant through
both situations (and it is a positive one) … God’s mercies toward us are renewed each day . This is a
fact of life to be thankful about - thankfulness evident through our attitudes, words and actions.
