In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, we welcome you to St. Mark’s. We especially welcome our guests who have joined us today.
We pray you will be strengthened by the good news about God’s grace, love and forgiveness through Jesus.
Worship Focus : What do you expect from a friend ? Do you expect them to remain loyal to you?
Do you expect them to betray your confidence? If you described a friend as being ‘lukewarm,’ is that
a positive remark? Jesus has called us to be His friends (we are more than that) . He truly is a friend of
friends . Are we that back? If not, why not? Who or what needs to change? Ponder such as we hear
the Word of our Lord today.

Worship Focus : When someone talks a good game but does not back it up, we might say that
person is full of hot air . Jesus not only talks a good game, He has backed it up and continues to do
so. How about you? Do you not only talk a good game of living for Jesus and having concern for the
souls of others, do you also back it up? Today we are encouraged to continue to talk it up and back it
up.

Worship Focus: If you rated your contentment on a scale of 1 to 5 with 5 being very content, what
number would you choose? Contentment applies to all facets of life, so we may be rating low in one
area but high in another. What would you say contentment needs to be rooted in, no matter the facet
of life we are talking about? The Word of our Lord answers that for us once again. Though content,
we are eager to hear more from Him and put that too into practice for contentment is not equal to
sitting still.

We pray you will be strengthened by the good news about God’s grace, love and forgiveness through Jesus.
Worship Focus: Some parts of the Bible do not sit well with our human way of thinking. We have
some of that today. We like to be in charge of our own life. But are we really in charge of it? To some
degree, yes; yet in the big picture we all are accountable to someone --- everyone is to God whether
they recognize that truth or not. God wants what is best for His creation, that is what is behind the
words before us today. May God increase our understanding and at the same time decrease our
natural desire to chafe at His expectations of us.

We pray you will be strengthened by the good news about God’s grace, love and forgiveness through Jesus.
Worship Focus: Where do you see a weakness in your life? Do you know why that is the case? What
is considered a ‘weakness’ may have come as a result of a ‘pet’ sin. The encouragement to be contrite
and to repent daily is fitting, along with the reminder that God’s mercy is new each day. To feed both
the repentance and the focus on God’s mercy, we are directed to stay close to God… which is why
we are here today.

Worship Focus: Have you heard anyone say, ‘I am so humble and proud of it’? It sounds like just
the opposite of being humble. Where does humility get a person in this life? What exactly does
humility in action look like? Imagine what our homes and communities and churches could be like if
we practiced humility … more humility. The Lord provides another timely reminder to us all.

We pray you will be strengthened by the good news about God’s grace, love and forgiveness through Jesus.
Worship Focus : Is it easy to be a follower of the Christ? Is it harder today than it was for Christians
who have gone before us? Jesus called it … He told us following Him and His ways would not be a
piece of cake ; at the same time He also told us He is with us always providing what we need to
endure even when we do not see or feel it. With other Christians, past and present, we continue to
say: Lord, I do believe, help me overcome my unbelief. You are in the right place for that to happen.

We pray you will be strengthened by the good news about God’s grace, love and forgiveness through Jesus.
Worship Focus : Do you find it hard to keep going through life ? Maybe not every day , but there are
days this life just weighs you down ? This feeling may be the result of something physical or
emotional or spiritual or a combination of such . You are not alone. You do not have to face today
and tomorrow alone. The Lord remains by your side . He can remove the affliction , or He may allow
it to linger yet provide what we need to e ndure through it. This is another reason why God is worthy
of our time and praise.

We pray you will be strengthened by the good news about God’s grace, love and forgiveness through Jesus.
Worship Focus: What do you use to get tough stains out of your clothes? Does it work every time?
It happens – we get our clothes dirty and they need to be washed. It happens – people do bad and
hurtful things, such should not come as a surprise to us. We then need to get clean, and we can –
through Jesus. To show our thanks for this, may our ‘cleansed’ heart line up with our words and
actions to God’s glory .

Worship Focus : Commitment – what does this word mean to you? What gets in the way of people
hono ring commitments ? If God did not remain committed to us, what would that look like? Being a
follower of Jesus takes more than blind faith ; why is this the case? Without Jesus, what are we
missing , and why is your answer a big deal? Thankfully , Jesus has called us to have life in and through
Him. Today we recall what this all entails , including our commitment to Him .
