Worship Focus: As we close out the season of Epiphany we see our Lord shine his light big and bright one more time before the trials of Lent ahead. Seeing his true glory must have brought awe and comfort to the disciples as Jesus faced the difficult times to come. We also daily take heart in the fact that our Savior is true God and Lord and that he has given his glory for us to shine.

Focus of Today’s Service: Whose life is not impacted in one way or another by sickness or tragedy? Why is this? The short answer is quite simple; while the long answer is a bit more complicated. We are not without answers; nor are we without hope. We are reminded of some answers through our Scripture Readings for today. God open our ears to what we need to hear.

Worship Focus: When someone says ‘look at me,’ what do they exactly mean by that? They want our full attention. Who else wants your full attention? Our Scripture Readings tell us who, and why this is. Jesus is more than a pretty face; He is life, He is hope, He is confidence. So what is keeping you from giving Jesus your full attention? We give Him our attention right now as we continue with the worship service. God be praised for the opportunity to grab our attention.

In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, we welcome you to St. Mark’s. We especially welcome our guests who have joined us today. We pray you will be strengthened by the good news about God’s grace, love, and forgiveness to us through Jesus.

Worship Focus: Jesus shows his glory in the kind of people that he calls to serve him and in using the gospel to make them willing to follow him. This Sunday it is the epistle lesson that gives unity to the readings, since all of the other readings deal with specific calls to a full time following that leaves behind secular vocations. Jesus still calls such to the holy ministry. To all however comes the call to follow him with a willingness to abandon everything should faithfulness require it; the calls in these readings bid us have a mindset that has forsaken everything, even when we are not required to do it.

Worship Focus: Wet Cement … Is that what you want your faith based upon? Would you walk or drive your car across a bridge while the concrete is still drying? When our faith in Jesus remains on the solid ground of the Word, our life is filled with confidence and an eternal hope. This is why we are encouraged today to stand firm on God’s solid Word. It is His Word that has brought us to faith and it is this same Word that can keep us in the saving faith. So let us listen to it and do what it says.

Focus of Today’s Service:"Epiphany" is a word that literally means "to shine upon" something, or to show or reveal something. In this festival we celebrate how God has revealed his Savior to the nations--not just the Jews but to all people everywhere. We certainly see that this morning as our readings focus on the fact that believers from the Gentiles (non-Jews) have fully become a part of God's people.

Focus of Today’s Service: There is more than one way to heaven … WRONG! There is only one way to heaven and there is only one God who has made this way possible. The Lord God, testified to in the Bible, is the only God who has power to do all things, including offer the way of salvation. We have another opportunity to learn more about Him and how we are to go about this life with such knowledge. What a blessing to close out one year and enter another with this knowledge. Praise God from whom all blessings flow!
