Worship Focus: Who was or is your toughest teacher or coach? What made them come across as being tough, or what do you think they were trying to accomplish by being tough? People who care at times come down on us because they are trying to teach us, to push us because by nature we can be lazy and bent on not doing some positive things. God was tough on King David, and David needed God to be tough on him. But with such toughness came valuable life lessons, lessons rooted in grace. God uses tough times in our life to teach us valuable life lessons, lessons rooted in grace. Let us thank Him for caring about us.

Worship Focus: Are you a fan of thunderstorms? Some people really look forward to thunderstorms. Thunderstorms can be destructive, just as ‘storms’ in life can be destructive. Life storms come in a whole variety of forms. Life storms can impact us physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Such storms do not have to be devastating. Our Scripture Lessons for today provide the why not to that last statement. DEDICATION of our stained glass windows will be taking place today in our Services. May these windows keep our hearts and minds fixed on Him who is at the center of our calm during life’s storms. Not Without Purpose Commitments are also asked to be returned today as we look forward to significantly reducing our indebtedness for the purpose of taking advantage of other ministry opportunities knocking on our door as we seek to provide ‘The Shelter’ all people need through the storms of life.

Focus of Today’s Service: How mysterious this gospel message can be! We’re told that it’s powerful, that the Holy Spirit works through it, and that it changes and turns hearts back to God. But we can’t see it creating or strengthening faith with our eyes, so we often forget or even doubt its power. So today God in his Word points us to what we can see to verify that what he says happens indeed happens. Look at the visible results in us, in the church, and beyond and marvel at the power and presence of our Lord!

Worship Focus: Lies, lies, lies, and more lies. How can we tell who is telling the truth these days, if anyone is telling it? There is a way to know what truth is, and this truth will help us recognize the lies … lies which are intended to do us harm physically and spiritually. Who started the lies and what has been done about it is the focus for today. So no more excuses as truth sets us free.

Worship Focus: God gives us his law for our good, but how often do we fail to see the true purpose of it all. The law is meant to guide us, protect us, and benefit us, but our hearts often turn it into a burden or a way that we can feel more righteous. The Third Commandment is the perfect example. As we find our Sabbath rest in the Word, let us not forget that all of God’s laws and commandments point to our perfect Savior who kept them on our behalf.

Worship Focus: Is your mouth clean? Are you one who checks your breath before talking to someone? What steps do you take to keep your mouth clean and your breath fresh? As we do not ignore good hygiene for the mouth, so we ought not neglect taking good care of our soul. It starts out life unhealthy. There is only one way to clean it up. And with a clean mouth and soul we are ready to talk to people about their 'hygiene' woes. Today we give thanks to God for just that, and this is what we have because He is a God of mercy; not your typical god, but One who is three distinct Persons and yet still one God to be worshiped and served.

Worship Focus: So many things in this world try to sap our peace and joy. But thankfully, God has given us his life-giving Spirit who works through the Word to bring a peace that never ends and a joy that can never be taken away. With the Holy Spirit working in our hearts, we take comfort in knowing and being reminded of the everlasting life he imparts through Christ. Worship Focus: Where is He now? Who? Jesus, that is who. He is still around, just not as visible as He once was. But no worries, we will get to see Him visibly. For us in Christ, this is a time we eagerly look forward to; while those who do not look to Him for salvation, that is a different emotion. As mother’s do not want to lose sight of their child(ren), so much more Jesus does not want us out of His sight nor to have us leave His sight for all eternity. This is just one important truth connected to the Ascension of our Lord. (Ascension is Jesus returning to heaven 40 days following His rising from the grave, just as He said would happen. In heaven He continues to look after all our needs with our eternity in mind.)

Worship Focus: How well do you show your connection to Jesus? Last week we looked at how we’re connected to Jesus through his Word and because of that we see a change within in us. Now this week we’ll look more at how that life-giving connection shows itself to others. Because Jesus loved us, we are able to love each other. May God bless you today as you ponder how you can better show Christ’s love to those around you.
