Sunday Apr 28, 2019
Sunday Apr 28, 2019
Worship Focus: The Easter joy continues though this earthly life may not always be filled with joyous moments. The reason for our Easter joy is solid. God has made sure of that through prophecies, witnesses, tests of time, and more. So during the not so joyous parts of life, and there will be plenty of them over the course of our lifetime, continue to grab hold of the Easter joy which helps us keep the big picture in view. And the way to grab on is by fueling up with the Word of God … which is why we are here. Let us worship our God as He keeps the reason for joy in our hearts.
SERMON Based on John 20:19-31

Worship Focus: This is a day of mixed emotions as we pause to remember why Jesus had to die; it was not for anything that He had done wrong, but it has everything to do with what we have done wrong. On the flip side, because He was willing to give Himself in this way, to the point of death, we have forgiveness for all that we have done wrong; no other payment for sin is needed. With that in mind we focus once again on the why, the result, and the what now associated with Good Friday.
Presiding Minister: Pastor Jon Kolander
Musical Accompanist: Rosemarie Bousheck

THREE WORDS OF TRUTH
Welcome to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church & School
In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, we welcome you to St. Mark’s. We especially welcome our guests who have joined us today. We pray you will be strengthened by the good news about God’s grace, love, and forgiveness to us through Jesus.
WHAT IS MAUNDY THURSDAY? Maundy Thursday receives its name from the Latin phrase novum mandatum, which means, “new command.” It refers to Jesus’ words which he spoke to his disciples on this night, “A new command I give you: Love one another” (John 13:34). The institution of the Lord’s Supper on that night displays the depth of Jesus’ love for us and gives power to the Church to live out his command.
SERMON Based on Matthew 26:26-28
Three Words of Truth: Take and Eat; Take and Drink

Music by Adrienne Bengel

Worship Focus: What captures your attention? Is it always something that is good for you to see or hear? A variety of people through face to face contact or social media try to get our attention, not all of it good for us. We need to be discerning when it comes to what gets our attention. Jesus has good reason for us to give our attention to Him. Why this is to be the case, along with how to do this, gets our attention today as we witness Jesus boldly and yet humbly take one step closer to the cross.orship Focus: How could such grace be forgotten and rejected? The people in the Old Testament times did it. The people in Jesus’ day did it. And we can do it, too. So today let us remind ourselves of God’s grace in sending his own Son, Jesus, which is so great that it even (and especially!) reaches out to those who have rejected him.
Presiding Minister: Pastor Jon Kolander
Musical Accompanist: Adrienne Bengel
Soloist: Jenny Kolander

Focus of Today’s Service: When is the last time you have been taken advantage of? Not in that way … but in a positive way such as lending a helping hand? Do we take advantage of God? Definitely we do in a negative sense of the phrase; but He also wants us to take advantage of Him for our now and eternal benefit. What does that look like exactly? This is what we will explore through our gathering together on this 4th Sunday in Lent.

In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, we welcome you to St. Mark’s. We especially welcome our guests who have joined us today. We pray you will be strengthened by the good news about God’s grace, love, and forgiveness to us through Jesus.
Worship Focus: Signs, signs are everywhere, but nobody reads ‘em. We’ve been given quite a few warnings in Scripture when it comes to urgent repentance. There are examples of God’s wrath upon those who reject his words. There are clear messages of God’s judgment upon sin. This morning let us heed the call to listen to the dangers and eternal consequences of impenitence. God, please help us turn from our sin and to our Savior, and let us bear fruit in keeping with repentance to your glory!

Musical Accompanist: Rosemarie Boushek
