GLORIFY HIM ... GROW IN HIM ... GO WITH HIS GOSPEL
20th Sunday after Pentecost October 18, 2020
Welcome to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church & School!
In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, we welcome you to St. Mark’s.
We especially welcome our guests who have joined us today.
We pray you will be strengthened by the good news about God’s grace, love,
and forgiveness to us through Jesus. We say with the psalmist, whether here on campus or viewing online,
“I rejoiced with those who said to me, ‘Let us go to the house of the LORD’”(Psalm 122:1).
May the Lord continue to help us grow in his grace and knowledge as we hear, speak, and sing his holy Word.
Worship Focus: Today is a day of warning. God places before us three examples of people who rejected
the Lord and his Word ofgrace. Look at what happens: others are led astray, disaster comes,
and the kingdom is torn awayfrom them. But why does God warn us of these things? Because he is gracious.
So today is also a day of grace. Let us learn from these past examples that we may continue to build on the one,
chief cornerstone: Jesus Christ.

Worship Focus: If you were to receivea new heart, howwould that change your life (lifestyle)? In order to receive
a new heart what most likely had to happen first?God has made it possible for us to have a new heart.
How are you living your life in light of this truth? Taking the time to worship is on the right track,
keeping in mind worship is not so much about what we do for God;rather it is about God,and what Hehas
done/is doing for us. Thanks for taking care of your heart.

Focus of Today’s Service: Look at the grace of our God! He forgives the sins of even the most wicked people...
including us. And that’s something you and I can sometimes struggle with.
So today God is going to confront any self-righteous and selfish attitude we have when it comes to
receiving his grace and remind us that his grace extends not just to us but to everyone.

Worship Focus: What is something in your house or in your mind that you are holding on to, and why? What
would happen if you were to let go of that something? When it comes to bitterness and rage and sin, the Lord
tells us point blank to not hold on to it for such is not good for us or for others, including our relationship with
Him. God help us see what is holding us back from truly living with His forgiveness which includes being
willing to forgive others and not dwell on the negative. God be praised for His mercy, new each day

It's difficult to do, but it's an honor and a privilege from God; admonishing our brothers and sisters in faith.
Our gracious God has given us the belessed task of helping keep each other on the path that leads to heaven.
Thankfully he tells us we're not alone, and he equips us for the task by giving us his law and his gospel.
All of it, every step of the way, revels out God's love for sinners, and God be praised that today we get
to celebrate how we get to imitate that love!

Worship Focus: Do you have good intentions? Pick a topic and ask yourself the question. When
it comes to worship traditions, for example, our intentions may be good but what can make good
intentions not the case? The Lord does not mince words - that which takes the focus off of Him
and puts it on self is not sound practice no matter how good the intentions. God help us examine
our intentions on all fronts. Blessings be evident as we worship Him.

Worship Focus:
Focus of Today’s Service: Nothing can stop our God from preserving his church. The gates of hell and the power of Satan might come at us with full force, but God’s church will not be overcome. Why? Because God builds his church on the rock-solid testimony of Christ crucified. The Son of the living God has forgiven our sins, and God’s church is equipped with that message of forgiveness. God in his grace, with his power, and through his Word will preserve his people.

Do you like exercise?
Maybe your answer depends on the day or for what purpose you are exercising. Exercise for our faith is just as
important. God allows tests to help with this exercise. He also has provided His Word to help us exercise His
gift of faith. Confessions of faith, along with prayer, are other ways to exercise our faith.
If we do not exercise, what can happen? God bless the hearing and reading of His Word today and everyday.

Worship Focus: : “Did God really say?” That temptation has been around as long as faith has been. God tells
us something, and we have faith that it’s true—we believe! But because of sin we always have to wrestle with
doubt. Doubt in God’s care naturally brings with it fear and despair and wavering, especially in the midst of
trials. God’s answer to such doubt: his power. He’s proven it numerous times in the past, and he’ll prove it
again with everything he’s promised us. He’ll follow through—he always does! It’s confidence in that fact that
guides the Christian to answer doubt with faith.

Worship Focus: Does a life of hardship mean that God does not care or does not exist? Not at
all. The way to endure a life of hardship, different for each one of us, is through God’s care; which
He provides through His Word, as well as through people He puts into our life. We have examples
of this in our worship today. God remains compassionate. Marvel again how God can use hardship
for something good.
