In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, we welcome you to St. Mark’s. We especially welcome our guests who have joined us today.
We pray you will be strengthened by the good news about God’s grace, love, and forgiveness through Jesus.

Worship Focus: How do you avoid falling into ruts? It is one thing to have our life on autopilot, so
to speak; it is another to not lose sight of what we are to be doing with our life. Is life influencing us,
or are we influencing life—the life around us? Part of keeping watch for the return of Jesus is to
make sure we do not just put our faith on autopilot—that is, not give thought to what we are doing;
another part involves not letting the world pull us away from Jesus. Our Lord’s reminder to ‘keep
watch,’ and why this is to be the case, is always timely.

Worship Focus: Are you more of a promise maker and keeper of promises, or a promise maker and
too often breaker of promises? Promises can easily roll off of our tongue; keeping those promises,
not so easy. There is only one who makes promises and always keeps them, we have plenty of proof
of this; that one is God, the God who has created the heavens and the earth … and so much more,
in fact, all things good start with Him. And the most important promise from God’s mouth to our
ears is which one? Ponder that as we join in giving thanks to God for being a promise maker and
keeper of His promises.

Worship Focus: You invested in a premium vehicle, and you want to keep this vehicle in mint
condition. To keep it running in peak condition, do you put in contaminated gasoline, especially
knowing the vehicle manufacturer and sales team made it clear top-tier gasoline only? God has made
us a special creation. He has invested in us, giving us nothing but the best. To show our thanks for
His best to us and in us, and to keep us at our best, what needs to happen? This is what we are
focusing on in our worship today.

Worship Focus: Have you been caught in a storm, whether that be while traveling in the Sierra or
out fishing on the ocean? Are there days when you emotionally are going through a storm? The word
‘storm’ conjures up more of a negative vibe, something that can cause trouble and lead to concern and
fear. God provides ways to deal with the storms of life by keeping our attention on the calm He has
made available now through Jesus, as well as by keeping our mind on the fact that these current
storms are temporary. Let us not take for granted, then, the triumphant status God has given to us in
Christ.

Worship Focus: That is not fair. When is the last time you have said or thought this about a life
event? Life does not always come across fair to us or from our perspective, that does not mean it is
not. Consider what Jesus had to endure while on this earth, talk about not fair; and let us not say that
was different. It was for you and me that He took upon Himself something that was not fair. Hold
on to God’s perfect justice; He gives us what we need … to endure … to get to heaven.

Worship Focus: Are you sure you can handle the truth … the truth about yourself … the truth
about what God in love has done for you? If you can, then why so often do we spend time doubting
God’s love for us, as well as not consistently living a life which reflects we believe the truth we are
forgiven by grace through faith? While we are thankful for the Word of God being taught in its truth
and purity in many churches throughout the world, there still is a need for vigilance so that the Truth
does not get lost amidst a social gospel and other philosophies which detract from the pure Gospel.
Souls depend on this ongoing Reformation focus and a self-reflection emphasis.

Worship Focus: When is the last time you have led someone to commit a sin? Maybe it was to tell a
lie, to steal something for you, to listen to your gossip. We are guilty of doing this more than we care
to admit; same with being led into sin by others, let alone by our own sinful nature. Jesus knows us
so well that He made sure we have opportunity to hear about our sins and what the solution is to
deal with our sins. We have all the more reason to give thanks to God for His grace in our life. Let us
thank and praise Him through our thoughts and words and actions.

Worship Focus: What is it that leads people to say there must not be a God or He must be sleeping
all the time? When people say such, what truths are they missing? The God of the Bible does not
hide why there is evil in this world; He also provides a way to deal with it and overcome it even if the
evil is allowed to take our physical life. All the more we need the encouragement God puts before us
today in our Readings from Scripture. Let us, by God’s grace, continue to be faithful to Him and
direct others to Him – which includes what He has to offer for this life and the next.

Worship Focus: You paid how much for that item? I would never pay that much … then again we
turn around and pay a good amount for something we think is valuable or we desire. Let us not be
quick to judge how others use their earthly wealth. At the same time, let us heed God’s more than just
encouraging words on ways to put our wealth to work; remembering too where all wealth ultimately
comes from. With that in mind, God help us learn how to be content – along with what that means
and is to look like in our life. God is good … all the time! Praise His holy name!
