GLORIFY HIM ... GROW IN HIM ... GO WITH HIS GOSPEL
CELEBRATING THE GOODNESS OF GOD
3rd Sunday of Easter
April 23, 2023
A place to call home: St. Mark’s Lutheran Church & School
In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, we welcome you to St. Mark’s. We especially welcome our guests who have joined us today.
We pray you will be strengthened by the good news about God’s grace, love and forgiveness through Jesus.
Worship Focus: What has been a life-changing moment for you? Was it a change in career? Was it someone you met? Was it the birth of a baby? Was it when you were brought into a relationship with Jesus? A good number of us would not remember that moment, taking place at our Baptism, yet it was (is) a life-changing moment for sure. Another life-changing moment for us to consider has to do with the word ‘repentance.’ Today we focus on that word and the implications of the action to be associated with it.

In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, we welcome you to St. Mark’s. We especially welcome our guests who have joined us today.
We pray you will be strengthened by the good news about God’s grace, love and forgiveness through Jesus.
Worship Focus: What, if anything, gives you joy in this life? Have you experienced an inexpressible joy? Again, keeping in mind joy is not the same as happiness. While there are many things in this life that can give us joy, there is one source of joy that keeps on giving it out even when life hits us hard. Joy in and through Jesus provides a calm on the inside, along with a confidence the big picture is still in tact – that big picture being what Jesus has sealed for us through the empty tomb. Now, through today’s worship and other opportunities, let us keep growing in the source of such joy for our life.

Worship Focus: Do you desire to live free? Follow up question: Free from what? How many people
spend their life chasing after ‘freedom’ and miss out on it due to looking in all the wrong places for
there is only one source that offers true freedom and enables us to live free even when we are under
the influence of others. Jesus is that source. He died to obtain it for us. He rose from the dead to
guarantee it. Such freedom is behind our ‘He is risen’ worship today, along with our resurrection joy
all lifelong. Come and see, once again. Continue to go and tell.

In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, we welcome you to St. Mark’s. We especially welcome our guests who have joined us today.
We pray you will be strengthened by the good news about God’s grace, love, and forgiveness through Jesus.
Worship Focus: During the Season of Lent we have been encouraged to live free in Jesus. This is
needed encouragement as there are so many aspects (internal and external) in this life that try to tear
us away from the peace Jesus won for us on the cross He died on with you in mind. Tonight, we are
encouraged even as we are full of sorrow as we ponder how it was because of us and for us Jesus
went willingly to Calvary’s Hill … this so we could live free from the consequences of our sins. God
help us understand what this freedom looks like and what it all includes.

Worship Focus: What are some traits of others that you appreciate, and would not mind imitating?
There are definitely traits we do not want to imitate, and should not imitate. Jesus is One we want to imitate, and through the Spirit of God we are given the ability to do so, though not perfectly on this side of heaven. Picture what this world could be like if every one imitated Jesus. Well, it starts with you, so let us continue to confess Jesus as the One to focus on by way of our imitating im.

We pray you will be strengthened by the good news about God’s grace, love, and forgiveness through Jesus.
Worship Focus: What are some things you can be certain will take place while you are living on this
side of heaven? The list is long, and it includes dying as no one escapes that which has come into this
world as a consequence of sin. Even though we will die, unless Jesus returns first, death does not
have to be something we are afraid of happening to us; what is frightening is not having a connection
with the Creator God through His Son, Jesus, when that time comes. How can we know if we have
the necessary connection? That is the focus for today.

Worship Focus: What is holding you back from living free in Jesus? If you are caught up in the
thought process of not feeling saved or worthy, reread John 3:16 and the events of Holy Week;
focus on the facts which reveal God’s love for you, such is not based on how you feel but on how
He is toward us. Maybe it is guilt which is holding you back; Jesus has made it possible for you to
be set free from this too. As we ponder the opening question this Lenten journey, may the Lord
continue to open your eyes and ears and heart to what He has done to set us free from ourselves
(our sin and all that comes with it) and thus enabled to live the life He calls us to live – living free
in Jesus.

Worship Focus: Why me? Why do I have to get sick? What did I do wrong to deserve this? Sound familiar? It is natural for us to ask why and assume ‘we’ must have done something to have ‘this’ not good happen to us. Yet, not everything negative can be tied to something specific; at times life will just not go as hoped or planned because we do live in a world that is not perfect. Thankfully God has something to help us sort through the why questions and the consequences of sin. His answers are rooted in His grace. To this God indeed be our praise and thanks today and always.
