Worship Focus: This is a day of mixed emotions as we pause to remember why Jesus had to die; it was not for anything that He had done wrong, but it has everything to do with what we have done wrong. On the flip side, because He was willing to give Himself in this way, to the point of death, we have forgiveness for all that we have done wrong; no other payment for sin is needed. With that in mind we focus once again on the why, the result, and the what now associated with Good Friday.
Presiding Minister: Pastor Jon Kolander
Musical Accompanist: Rosemarie Bousheck

THREE WORDS OF TRUTH
Welcome to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church & School
In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, we welcome you to St. Mark’s. We especially welcome our guests who have joined us today. We pray you will be strengthened by the good news about God’s grace, love, and forgiveness to us through Jesus.
WHAT IS MAUNDY THURSDAY? Maundy Thursday receives its name from the Latin phrase novum mandatum, which means, “new command.” It refers to Jesus’ words which he spoke to his disciples on this night, “A new command I give you: Love one another” (John 13:34). The institution of the Lord’s Supper on that night displays the depth of Jesus’ love for us and gives power to the Church to live out his command.
SERMON Based on Matthew 26:26-28
Three Words of Truth: Take and Eat; Take and Drink

Sermon Focus … “Is It I?” based on Matthew 26:20-25
20 When evening came, Jesus was reclining at the table with the Twelve. 21 And while they were eating, he said, “Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me.” 22 They were very sad and began to say to him one after the other, “Surely you don’t mean me, Lord?” 23 Jesus replied, “The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me. 24 The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born.” 25 Then Judas, the one who would betray him, said, “Surely you don’t mean me, Rabbi?”
Jesus answered, “You have said so.”

Worship Focus: A new year, and with it comes plans and hopes and new beginnings. Tonight we pause to reflect so we can go into the new year with godly focus. We remember who we are by nature, what God has done for us, and what God promises to us not only in this life but in the life to come. May God bless our meditation this evening so we can glorify him in the year that is about to begin.
