The Story of the Christmas Wreath
INTRODUCTION
The story of the Christmas Wreath is the theme for this Christmas worship service. Although
we are used to hanging wreaths on our front doors and in our churches, many people don’t
realize the wonderful significance that this decoration has to offer. This service considers
several wreaths that all present something meaningful in our Christmas holiday. Many of our
members are familiar with the Advent Wreath which provides a calendar to follow as we
approach Christmas. The Wreath of Thorns reminds us of the sacrifice of Jesus on the
cross. The Laurel Wreath was also mentioned in the Bible as a sign of victory in the Greek
games. Today it symbolizes the crown of victory that will be ours one day. Finally, we will look
at the Christmas Wreath and the significance of its color and shape.

Celebration of the Reformation - October 31, 2021
Worship Focus: How often do you contemplate the fact of your salvation through faith in Jesus? It
was no small matter what Jesus has accomplished for us, and for all. How easily this Truth can be
lost or dismissed. Praise the Lord for Reformers in His church throughout history, people He used
to keep the Gospel front and center. And the Lord continues to do this through people like you; this
is no small task given to us. Thankfully He has equipped us … through faith … by giving us the
Scriptures for our constant learning … and sharing. God help us to not take any of this associated
with the Reformation for granted. Let us worship Him!

In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, we welcome you to St. Mark’s. We especially welcome our guests who have joined us today.
We pray you will be strengthened by the good news about God’s grace, love, and forgiveness through Jesus.
Worship Focus:
Crucified, he won our forgiveness. Risen, he proved it. Ascended, that message
spreads throughout the world. Jesus is seated at the right hand of God, reigning
over all things for his name and for his people. Such a Savior who guides all
things is also the One who graciously gives his Church blessings to carry out its
work in his name. Today we celebrate that there is no God like our exalted Christ,
who gives his people Ascension blessings.

Worship Focus:
Today we celebrate the wonderful grace of our God and his work in the hearts of his
children. God has brought these confirmands to faith in Christ and has caused them to grow in the knowledge
of his Word and of his grace. Now we all get to witness the work of the Holy Spirit in their hearts and minds
as they confess the truths of God’s eternal Word and promise their faithfulness to them. May this day usher
them into a close, life-long relationship with their Savior, and may it be a refreshing experience for the rest of
us that brings us to a greater appreciation of the truths God has given us.

St. Mark’s Lutheran Church & School
In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, welcome home. We especially welcome to our house of worship our guests who have joined us today.
We pray you will be strengthened by the good news about God’s grace, love, and forgiveness to us through Jesus. We say with the
Psalmist, whether here on campus or viewing online, “I rejoiced with those who said to me, ‘Let us go to the house of the
LORD’”(Psalm 122:1). May the Lord continue to help us grow in His grace and knowledge as we hear, speak, and sing His holy Word.
Worship Focus:
This is a day of mixed emotions as we pause to remember why Jesus had to die; it was not for anything that He had done wrong,
but it has everything to do with what we have done wrong. On the flip side, because He was willing to give of Himself in this way,
to the point of death, we have forgiveness for all that we have done wrong; no other payment for sin is needed. With that in mind
we focus once again on...the why, the result, and the what now associated with Good Friday.
Prayer for Worship: Dearest Jesus, how can we thank You for the price You paid that we might be at one with the Father? Thank You
for the sacrifice of Yourself on the cross as our Substitute. Firm up our faith as we humbly remember on this Good Friday Your cross
and tomb. Amen.

Maunday-Thursday April 1, 2021
WHAT IS MAUNDY THURSDAY?
Maundy Thursday receives its name from the Latin phrase novum mandatum, which means, “new command.” It refers to Jesus’ words which he
spoke to his disciples on this night, “A new command I give you: Love one another” (John 13:34). The institution of the Lord’s Supper
on that night displays the depth of Jesus’ love for us and gives power to the church to live out his command.

A prayer:
Teach us, Lord of heaven and earth, to number our days aright. Hear our prayers and open our ears to the
message You have prepared for us this day. Fill our hearts and minds with the peace which can only come
from You as we mourn the earthly departure of Hilma and at the same time celebrate the eternal victory
she has received by Your grace. Amen.

In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, welcome home. We especially welcome to our house of worship our guests who have joined us today. We pray you will be strengthened by the good news about God’s grace, love, and forgiveness to us through Jesus.
Worship Focus: What shall ‘I’ do with Jesus? During this Lenten Season we will explore various answers to this important question. What Jesus has done on your behalf, on behalf of the entire world population of all time, is not to be taken lightly or treated like ‘we have heard this all before.’
The message is indeed relevant, needed just as much now as it was for previous generations. What do you do with Jesus, not just during Lent but every day of your entire life here on earth? Your answer is important. God help us see and appreciate His powerful display of mercy; and then celebrate the fact He did this for you, and for others --- tell them about it.
