THE ORDER OF WORSHIP
Worship Focus: How is your memory? Do you remember things you wish you could forget, and
forget what you wish you would like to remember (if you can recall what those moments are)? God
has a short and long memory. Thankfully He practices a short memory when it comes to our sins,
this for Jesus’ sake. Thankfully He practices a long memory when it comes to keeping His promises.
As we reflect on 2021, and ponder what might lie ahead in 2022, let us not forget to praise God for
His short and long memory. A blessed New Year to you!

Christmas Day --- Peace on Earth

A place to call home: St. Mark’s Lutheran Church & School
In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, welcome home. We especially welcome to our house of
worship our guests who have joined us today. We pray you will be strengthened by the good news
about God’s grace, love, and forgiveness to us through Jesus.
Worship Focus: The world keeps searching for it and it will not find it where it looks because it is
looking in the wrong spot for it. The ‘it’ is peace in the heart which is a peace that can drive the peace
the world says it seeks. The correct place to find such peace is in Jesus. He came to earth to win our
peace with God the Father, and with that accomplished we can have peace with one another as well.
Yet, apart from Jesus, such peace will not be found. How many people miss the reason for Christmas
and so miss the peace which can fill the void and provide purpose to life and promote goodwill
among all? Thankfully we know peace, as we know Jesus. Merry Christmas!

The Story of the Christmas Wreath
INTRODUCTION
The story of the Christmas Wreath is the theme for this Christmas worship service. Although
we are used to hanging wreaths on our front doors and in our churches, many people don’t
realize the wonderful significance that this decoration has to offer. This service considers
several wreaths that all present something meaningful in our Christmas holiday. Many of our
members are familiar with the Advent Wreath which provides a calendar to follow as we
approach Christmas. The Wreath of Thorns reminds us of the sacrifice of Jesus on the
cross. The Laurel Wreath was also mentioned in the Bible as a sign of victory in the Greek
games. Today it symbolizes the crown of victory that will be ours one day. Finally, we will look
at the Christmas Wreath and the significance of its color and shape.

Celebration of the Reformation - October 31, 2021
Worship Focus: How often do you contemplate the fact of your salvation through faith in Jesus? It
was no small matter what Jesus has accomplished for us, and for all. How easily this Truth can be
lost or dismissed. Praise the Lord for Reformers in His church throughout history, people He used
to keep the Gospel front and center. And the Lord continues to do this through people like you; this
is no small task given to us. Thankfully He has equipped us … through faith … by giving us the
Scriptures for our constant learning … and sharing. God help us to not take any of this associated
with the Reformation for granted. Let us worship Him!
