Good Friday --- Redeemed, Restored, Forgiven
March 29, 2024 6pm
A place to call home: St. Mark’s Lutheran Church & School
In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, we welcome you to St. Mark’s. We especially welcome our guests who have joined us today.
We pray you will be strengthened by the good news about God’s grace, love and forgiveness through Jesus.
Worship Focus: For the past six weeks we have been talking about a love story, the greatest love
story. It is the one God wrote and acted on. Today we see the high point of this love story …
which is more than just ‘a story’ as it deals with and impacts our life whether one believes it to be
true or not. The church Season of Lent provides the perfect setting to see and hear God’s love for
you, even if we have heard it countless times. In response, the Holy Spirit prompts us and directs
us on how to show our love for God. We can rightly say, then, that what is before us in no ordinary
love story.
We welcome the Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary Chorus
and the opportunity to worship our Lord together in this place.
If there is any way our church and school can serve your spiritual needs, please contact one of our pastors or our school principal:

Worship Focus: For a good number of people, when they walk into a dark room they reach for what? The light switch. Jesus Himself is light. As the light He exposes evil for what it is; as the light He also points out the way to be delivered from the evils of this world, so such will not follow us when we leave this earth. Christmas is a time for lights, and there is no better or brighter light to focus on than Jesus – the promised One. Merry Christmas thanks to Him who is the Light.

worship our guests who have joined us today. We pray you will be strengthened by the good news
about God’s grace, love, and forgiveness to us through Jesus.
We say with the Psalmist, whether here on campus or viewing online, “I rejoiced with those who said to me,
‘Let us go to the house of the LORD’” (Psalm 122:1).
May the Lord continue to help us grow in His grace and knowledge as we hear, speak, and sing His
holy Word.
Worship Focus: It cannot happen, Christ taken out of Christmas … so we might say; however, in a
way it already has happened, has it not? While Christ will always remain the reason for Christmas, the
world has not always connected and celebrated Christ with Christmas; the danger is there for us who
know about the connection between Christ and Christmas. How can we avoid such a danger? What
can we do to point others in Christ’s direction at Christmas and beyond? Our worship tonight is one
of the ways to do just that.

As we have come together this Thanksgiving Eve, we do so with hearts warmed by God and motivated to worship Him as a way of expressing our thanks to Him for all the blessings He places into our lives … even the ones we complain about. God is good, all the time! All the time, God is good! Give thanks!

Worship Focus: Why do we want to keep celebrating the Reformation? People were blind to the
message of salvation ‘then’ just as they remain blind to it today. The problems in and out of the
church then are still evident today; and what was needed then to get on track is still needed today. At
the heart of the Reformation message then and now is the cross of Christ, without it we would still
be lost in our sins; with it we are reconciled … apart from any of our works. The need for this
message is just as vital today as it was then, that is why we want to keep celebrating through word
and song in gatherings like this the Reformation focus.

Worship Focus: Does trust have to be earned? If so, how does one go about earning trust, your trust? It is understandable why we would not be a trusting person, especially if someone has betreayed us. Trust can be earned back, it takes effort on the part of both parties. God is one we can trust. If there is an issue, it is not with Him but us. He remains consistent and true to Himself, and us. Today, note the distinctions of trusting in Him versus in someone or something else; in particular, when it comes to salvation, our salvation.

Worship Focus: Why me? Why do I have to get sick? What did I do wrong to deserve this? Sound familiar? It is natural for us to ask why and assume ‘we’ must have done something to have ‘this’ not good happen to us. Yet, not everything negative can be tied to something specific; at times life will just not go as hoped or planned because we do live in a world that is not perfect. Thankfully God has something to help us sort through the why questions and the consequences of sin. His answers are rooted in His grace. To this God indeed be our praise and thanks today and always.
