Good Friday --- Look to Love & Serve
April 15, 2022 … 6:30 PM
IT IS FINISHED …
FOR YOU
HE WALKED THE PATH TO CALVARY
A place to call home: St. Mark’s Lutheran Church & School
In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, welcome home. We especially welcome to our house of
worship our guests who have joined us today. We pray you will be strengthened by the good news
about God’s grace, love, and forgiveness to us through Jesus.
We say with the Psalmist, whether here on campus or viewing online, “I rejoiced with those who said to me,
‘Let us go to the house of the LORD’” (Psalm 122:1).
May the Lord continue to help us grow in His grace and knowledge as we hear, speak, and sing His
holy Word.
Worship Focus: During the Season of Lent, for our midweek Lenten journey with Jesus to the
cross, we have been looking at various ‘shadows of the Savior,’ that which pointed ahead to what
Jesus as Savior would do as part of gaining our salvation. On this Good Friday, we continue our look
at such shadows; today’s is centered on a snake. All who looked on ‘this snake’ had their life spared.
How that snake served as a shadow is our focus. Sin comes with a deadly bite; Jesus has the antidote.

SHADOWS OF THE SAVIOR …
All of these were a ‘shadow’ of the things
that were to come;
the ‘reality,’ however, is found in Christ
(Colossians 2:17)
GLORIFY HIM …
GROW IN HIM …
GO WITH HIS GOSPEL

Worship Focus: The word “Maundy” is of Latin origin. It has to do with the mandate Jesus gave to
His disciples (see John 13:34). He who is love wants us to love one another. Out of love, Jesus laid
down His life in place of our own; it had to be this way for only His death would be able to atone for
every human being. Jesus humbled Himself, this ought to humble us and move us to love Him and
loving Him shows itself in loving our fellow human beings.

Worship Focus: Was the Gospel just for ‘New Testament Believers’? Not at all. The Gospel has
not changed from day one God announced His saving plan to the world – Genesis 3:15. And so we
have throughout the Old Testament references to the coming Savior, references the believers in the
OT would hold on to as they believed God would keep His promise. Some of these references we
refer to as ‘shadows or pictures of the Savior.’ During this Lenten Journey we will review some of
these ‘shadows’ and see their fulfillment in the Christ who came in flesh at the appointed time to
carry out the plan of our salvation. God be praised for keeping His promise.

Worship Focus: What do you have a difficult time admitting about yourself? Do you have a
problem with authority? Our sinful nature chafes at being told what to do; our new self in Christ
welcomes His direction. Give praise to God today, and daily, for the call to faith and the course He
has for our life as laid out for us in the Bible. He is what we need through the good and the not good.

Worship Focus:
What shall ‘I’ do with Jesus? During this Lenten Season we will explore various answers to this important question.
What Jesus has done on your behalf, on behalf of the entire world population of all time, is not to be taken lightly or treated
like ‘we have heard this all before.’ Themessage is indeed relevant, needed just as much now as it was for previous generations.
What do you do with Jesus, not just during Lent but every day of your entire life here on earth? Your answer is important.
God help us see and appreciate His powerful display of mercy; and then celebrate the fact He did this for you, and for
others ---tell them about it.
