We pray you will be strengthened by the good news about God’s grace, love, and forgiveness through Jesus.

Worship Focus: Are you kidding me, how can they drive so slow? Come on already, hurry up. Lord,
give me patience and give it to me now. Any of these situations hit close to home? Patience is a virtue
not everyone has, and even the most patient among us may not be at times. The Lord reminds us of
one area in our life where patience is truly called for; God grant us this patience needed. To Him be
the glory as we give our attention to Him.

for a Joy-filled Christmas

Worship Focus: With all the hustle and bustle of Christmas … the decorating, the cleaning, the
baking, the gift buying, and so much more … the JOY of CHRISTmas can be missing in us and
through us. These midweek Advent Gatherings are meant to help us stay focused on the JOY of
CHRISTmas even as we do all the other activities we like to do this time of year. If we lose the JOY,
what is the point of Christmas? If we don’t have Christmas, we have no reason for joy. God is good,
for He has given us CHRISTmas which comes with JOY. Pass on the JOY!

The Advent Candles … The first candle (blue) is the prophecy candle (candle of hope). The
second candle (blue) is the Bethlehem candle (candle of preparation). The third candle (pink) is
the Shepherd candle (candle of joy). The fourth candle (blue) is the Angel candle (candle of love).
The fifth candle (white) is the Christ candle.

Worship Focus: What sin are you struggling with at the moment? Have you brushed it off as a way
to quiet your conscience? Our conscience is a gift, and it needs to be kept in good working order.
How does that happen? Friends who call us out when needed, they are a gift. Are you such a friend?
God keep our conscience sharp. God surround us with godly friends. Are you resisting His attempts
and desire to do just that? God be praised for His Word before us today.

Worship Focus: How do you avoid falling into ruts? It is one thing to have our life on autopilot, so
to speak; it is another to not lose sight of what we are to be doing with our life. Is life influencing us,
or are we influencing life—the life around us? Part of keeping watch for the return of Jesus is to
make sure we do not just put our faith on autopilot—that is, not give thought to what we are doing;
another part involves not letting the world pull us away from Jesus. Our Lord’s reminder to ‘keep
watch,’ and why this is to be the case, is always timely.

Advent Midweek # 3
December 15, 2021

In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, welcome home. We especially welcome to our house of worship our guests who have joined us today.
We pray you will be strengthened by the good news about God’s grace, love, and forgiveness to us through Jesus. We say with the
Psalmist, whether here on campus or viewing online, “I rejoiced with those who said to me, ‘Let us go to the house of the
LORD’”(Psalm 122:1). May the Lord continue to help us grow in His grace and knowledge as we hear, speak, and sing His holy Word.

Worship Focus: Jesus fills the potholes? Say what? Life is full of potholes, just like our roads. Jesus
has an eternal remedy for the potholes of life. The remedy has roots in Christmas, and the full
benefits of this remedy will be known when Jesus comes again at the end of the ages. We cannot
have heaven without the 'reason' for Christmas. Due to a variety of reasons, Christmas can be a
depressing time for people while for others it is a time of happiness and celebration; Jesus gets that.
This is why the Season of Advent is an important time of the year in our church. The Advent Season
connects Christmas and the End of the Ages as we hear again what Jesus has accomplished for us
and has waiting for us.

EVERLASTING
The Story of the Christmas Wreath
INTRODUCTION
The story of the Christmas Wreath is the theme for this Christmas worship service. Although
we are used to hanging wreaths on our front doors and in our churches, many people don’t
realize the wonderful significance that this decoration has to offer. This service considers
several wreaths that all present something meaningful in our Christmas holiday. Many of our
members are familiar with the Advent Wreath which provides a calendar to follow as we
approach Christmas. The Wreath of Thorns reminds us of the sacrifice of Jesus on the
cross. The Laurel Wreath was also mentioned in the Bible as a sign of victory in the Greek
games. Today it symbolizes the crown of victory that will be ours one day. Finally, we will look
at the Christmas Wreath and the significance of its color and shape.

Worship Focus: Which laundry detergent do you prefer to use and why that one? For some it
might be the scent, for others it might be that it does not have additives which can cause a rash; not
one detergent is for everybody. It is a different story when it comes to the ‘detergent’ we need for the
mess caused by sin; there is only one that will work, and this one does meet everyone’s needs … in
fact, it is the only one that can. Today’s ‘Advent Moment’ highlights what this ‘detergent’ is and how
it impacts our life for good.

Jesus Fills The Potholes

Worship Focus:
Jesus fills the potholes? Say what? Life is full of potholes, just like our roads. Jesus
has an eternal remedy for the potholes of life. The remedy has roots in Christmas, and the full
benefits of this remedy will be known when Jesus comes again at the end of the ages. We cannot
have heaven without the 'reason' for Christmas. Due to a variety of reasons, Christmas can be a
depressing time for people while for others it is a time of happiness and celebration; Jesus gets that.
This is why the Season of Advent is an important time of the year in our church. The Advent Season
connects Christmas and the End of the Ages as we hear again what Jesus has accomplished for us
and has waiting for us.

FOCUS ON THE SCRIPTURES Based on Hebrews 4:14-16
“Jesus Fills The Potholes … By Giving Us Grace”
Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of
God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable
to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as
we are—yet he did not sin. 16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that
we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
